Every year, we select a team of leaving cert students to each document their own leaving cert experience. Throughout the years we’ve had a wide variety of crazy, intelligent & talented students from all over the country….
2010 / 2011
Name: Aisling
About Me:
The name is Aisling, and I'm about to tackle this whole Leaving Cert affair head-on, and hopefully come out on top, perhaps waving a flag of some description in victory. Interests include Music, recreational Maths, and spelling - doubtless meaning half this blurb will be woefully misspelled. Aims for the year include 600 points, retained vestiges of sanity, and the survival of my innocent family, whom I will certainly blame for the examinations.
Name: michael2010
About Me:
Sixth Year student in Spanish Point, Co. Clare looking to kick the year off with a splash and hopefully save a big finish for the end. I'm 17 and enjoy Science, Maths, Geography and DCG. Greatest wall to climb this year will be...the orals. That aside I'm positive about The Leaving Cert. 2011. Goals for this year include getting into Medicine and winning a spot on the Maths Olympiad Team to go to Amsterdam.
Name: Eadaoin
About Me:
I'm Eadaoin, aged 17, and I come from Slieverue, Co. Kilkenny. Just started sixth year for the first, and hopefully last, time. Currently preparing for my battle against procrastination and the eventual Leaving Cert. Interests include drawing, reading and writing. Maths ist nicht mein Fall so I fear I will struggle at higher level. I also suck at Irish but I need it if I want to become a primary school teacher.
Name: kiera
About Me:
Well, the names Kiera, Im 17 and I hail from Cork!Ive been following leavingcert.net (or,more recently changed to students.theleavingcert.com)since I was in 4th year...Im now going into 6th so things are starting to hit home a little more!Im really excited to be part of the blogging team and hopefully Ill bring some relatable blogs to the table.Medicine is my ambition for as long as I can remember, and while Im relatively happy with how I perform in school,Im sure, like many of us,the introduction of the hpat has thrown me a little.(Chemistry aint the easiest thing in the world, either, but at least you can properly study for that!)Biology is hands down my favourite subject, love it to bits.(Is that weird?)Aside from school,I love spending hours in front of the telly watching Steve Wilkos and Maury.(Ya know, all those "reality" shows).Ive got a pet lizard called Zookie(shes the best)and I have an obsession with tea. They really are, interstingly enough, the main things you need to know about me.Looking forward to getting to know all you fellow leaving-certers,lets start this blogging thing...
Name: Naoise
About Me:
How now, brown cow? I'm Naoise, I'm 18, I'm from Dublin, I'm considerably more female than my name would suggest, and I'm about to spend a year being whacked forcibly with the academic flyswatter that is the Leaving Cert. I'm aiming for English, primarily because I'm a nascent swamp creature that's good at English and, ipso facto, useless at everything else. I was out for most of 5th year, so I hope you'll be amused by my scholastic scrambling to catch up. It'll be like a dog chasing its tail, only the dog will be me and the tail will be not failing everything.
Name: Sarah
About Me:
The wait has finally ended – I get to write for leaving-cert.net, or students.theleavingcert.com as it is now known. I found the site at the start of 5th year and am delighted to be part of the team. I'm 16 (younger than most in my year). My subjects are Irish, English, Maths, French, Art, History and DCG. I adore almost all sport – Gaelic being my favourite. I also enjoy music and as well as that I like to think I can play the guitar, and like reading, writing (now and then) and art. Plans for this year? Figure out what I want to with my life, decide which course will take me there, and get the points to do that course. It all seems so simple now… If this genius of a plan somehow fails, I’ll probably be the one trying to lead the country’s Leaving-Certs into a strike for the exams. Let’s see what the CAO does when everyone has 0 points! Mwahaha! On a more serious note, it’s pretty much a toss-up between journalism and architecture, either way I’ll be aiming for 400 – 500 points, most likely for UL. In the mean time I plan on actually getting round to some serious studying, and doing some kick-ass blogging with the rest of the team!
Name: Kate
About Me:
Story? I'm Kate, 17, from Cork (bai) and a Leaving Cert student. Ugh, someone shoot me. Interests include acting like a culchie, woeful piano playing and writing. More coming as I think of a way to make myself sound interesting.
Name: Chloe
About Me:
Okay I'll make this short and sweet. I'm Chloe, seventeen & from Wexford. I'm a Facebook addict and despite having a phobia of the dentist, I have this weird idea of maybe doing dentistry. Or medicine. Psychology? I'll take any course that's going to make me rich! I swear that was sarcasm.. I'm a busy little bee so I barely have time for study so let's see how that approach works out for me! I'm all excited now, God don'cha love sixth year ;)
Name: amy2010
About Me:
The names Amy, 17, not naturally blonde but get to know me a bit better and you might think otherwise. Aiming high so I don't know I'm going end up with my heart broken or not:/All I've ever wanted to do is read anything I could get my hands on and write every thought that came into my head so getting to do this is a bit of a dream for me, and if anything will keep me on the right track for the year. Did not do a tap last year and turned out I had more absences then I would have ever thought possible so it's all about this year! I intend to take it on with a cheeky volvic and who knows I might just learn something along the way.

Name: elizabeth2010
About Me:
A big hello to everybody! My name is Elizabeth Grey and I'm currently a Leaving Cert student in Dublin. So..whats up? The points to nearly every course I'm considering and not much else. I'm an average teenager, who worries for the future and day dreams away a large portion of her life. I try to work hard in school and I'm studying eight subjects (six at honours level). I enjoy music, cereal, toast, tea, good books, shopping and facebook. I also enjoy the odd biscuit, night out and admittedly have a weakness for trashy fashion magazines. Wow-I have managed to describe myself as a complete freak. Moving on...What would I like to study I hear you ask? Well..that is something that changes on a daily basis. I would love love love to do medicine but the HPAT exam is freaking me out and although painful to say I don't really know if I can get it. I'm aiming for 550points but then again I was also aiming to be on Broadway when I was five. PLEASE NOTE: I sadly cannot sing or dance. My second choice may be journalism and french or international relations yet then again I have no idea. I will be sure to keep you posted throughout this beautiful experience and please feel free to comment. Also please refrain from laughing at me as I do realise I have a tendency to be a drama queen and worry about the smallest things. :)

Name: grace
About Me:
Grace is a disgruntled leaving cert student from Cork City, who would rather spend her time procrastinating about procrastinating than studying. She also likes to listen to music and is currently obsessed with Debussy, Radiohead and John Lennon…simultaneously. Future aspirations include journalism and happiness.
Name: marie
About Me:
My name’s Marie and I hail from Cork. Currently partaking in a whole lot of procrastination in preparation for the Leaving Cert. I find paisley, coffee and neckerchiefs extremely agreeable however unseen Latin translations and milky tea not so. After eighteen years of living I still have no idea as to what I want to do next year so the CAO change of mind is going to be a well used facility. Can be found usually clutching a cup of coffee to my chest and muttering under my breath about people’s lack of respect or dignity. All in all : fledging little old lady.
Name: elizabeth
About Me:
Hey, my name is Elizabeth and I’m doing my Leaving Cert in Muckross Park College in Dublin. After going through many career choices (a shepherd when I was three to a vegetarian restaurant when I was six to an acrobat when I was fifteen) I’ve finally decided medical research is my calling, so I’m hoping to do medicine in Trinity next year. This blog will be my take on the leaving cert as I try to get enough crazily high points to hopefully nab one of those oh so hard-to-get places in medicine. It will be a constant battle between my wish to study something interesting in college and my will to stay in bed and do nothing. It’ll be a tough year and sacrifices will have to be made (my precious 9 hours of sleep are under severe threat lately) but I’m hoping it’ll be worth it in August.
Name: jennie
About Me:
There’s no denying that there’s a lot to Jennie. She’s no ordinary young adult, but one aglow with an incandescent wit far beyond her years! Although profoundly interested in and enthusiastic about her schoolwork (for the most part) she has no qualms about taking it easy from time to time, spending hours engrossed in books, listening to some pretty questionable alternative music and wasting time on t’internet. The Leaving Cert’s definitely a topic she knows a lot about seeing as she’s a repeat, but nonetheless it’s still as daunting as ever.
Name: emerald
About Me:
Emerald is enigmatic. He could invariably be described as variably variable. He can range from bizarre and whimsical, to sober and pensive. Which can get odd, when you’re being lectured to by a dude who named himself after a pretty gemstone. But then it becomes sort of ironic, like naming an alsation ‘fluffy’. Man those things scare him. Too many WWII films. Anyway, he’s from North County Dublin, and goes to a public school, lower-class plebian that he is. He hopes to get into NUIM and do psychology. Mainly because they’re one of the few colleges that offer a 360-point entry route (although that means future him will have to work harder next year, but that loser can kiss his ass) but also because Maynooth rules and all other colleges drool.Subjects: German, History, Chemistry, Biology, Irish, English, Maths
Name: olen
About Me:
Hi, my name is Olen. I grew up in the Philippines and moved here 4 years ago. I’m not afraid to say that I like to shop. But I like to read as well, just so people don’t think I’m vain. Because I’m not . At the moment, I really love the Asteroids Galaxy Tour (which is a band, btw) – although by the time anybody has read this, I will have almost definitely moved on. Of course I listen to them when I’m supposed to be hunched up in a corner somewhere with a book on one hand, and a rosary on the other, willing myself to learn the Krebs cycle – which just sounds like an STD.Just like Elizabeth and Jane (Pride and Prejudice much?), I’m crossing my fingers for medicine.
